36 Hours in NYC -- Move over Anthony Bourdain!

Our latest Griswolds' adventure begins with 36 hours in NYC. Boy, did we cram a lot in to 36 hours.
It was Hadley and Jack's first visit to New York City, so we started with a little walking tour before our evening festivities. First stop, Radio City Music Hall...

Then, on to Rockefeller Center.  The kids wanted to visit the Lego store, so Jack was in heaven. We were so glad to spend some time with Dan's sister, Jodie.

We decided to split up for the evening.  Dan and Poppy Jack took Sidney, Lyndon and Jack to the Dodgers/Mets game.  Dan has been a Dodgers fan for ages, so this was quite a treat!  We gave Hadley the option of the baseball game or a Broadway show.  Of course, she chose the show!  We had a little time to kill, so we pushed our way through the crowds in Times Square and visited the Disney Store.  She loved visiting Wandering Oaken's -- Yoo hoo, big summer blowout!

Thanks to Poppy and Jodie standing in line at TKTS before we arrived in NYC, I was able to take her to see Matilda.

She has memorized the entire soundtrack, so it was so exciting for her to actually see the show.  After the show, we waited at the stage door to get some autographs.  She was able to get the autograph of my favorite actress in the show, Lesli Margherita, who plays Matilda's mom.

We met up with the Dodgers fans after the show and game for dessert.  So we heard all about their exciting night.  They rode the train to the game...

Lots of fun was had at the ballpark.

Sidney and Dan took a ballgame selfie...

The Dodgers got beaten pretty handily, so they decided not to stay for the entire game. On the way back to Manhattan, they had another truly New York experience.  A huge rat ran past them on the steps in the subway.  It was big enough for Sidney to mistake it for a squirrel at first.  Jack said it looked a lot like his big stuffed rat from Ikea.  Glad he didn't try to snuggle with it.

The next morning, we enjoyed Brunch at a favorite restaurant near the Park.  We walked off our food by climbing on the big rocks in Central Park for a bit.

We were also lucky enough to find someone to take an family picture.  We can now cross Jack and Joan's Christmas card picture off of the list.

We saw the matinee of "On the Town" after our Central Park walk.  Dan was able to get us box seats!  It was a great "old school" Broadway show with lots of dancing and singing.

After the show, we met a friend of Jodie's for a quick snack before dinner.  Jodie picked our meeting place as Brother Jimmy's, a BBQ joint in NYC.  They have a map of NC on the wall.  Look what we found...

We ended our day with dinner at one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the City, Da Tommaso.  Now we are about to board the plane to London.  Pip, pip, cheerio!
